Odalisque

There is a little jewel box of beauty in Geneva, Illinois aptly named Odalisque.
Odalisque is a beauty apothecary in every sense of the term. The atmosphere is quaint, cozy and very Euro--in the very best of ways.
It is owned by a cool gal named Bridget who has lived in France, worked for years at Neiman Marcus, and is married to a hot guy in a rock band. Bridget knows a little bit about everything--so in addition to shopping at her awesome store, chatting with her is a big treat, and always a laugh!

Bridget explained to me that an Odalisque is where ladies in ancient times used to go to beautify themselves. You can surely do that at Odalisque in Geneva. There is a treasure trove of hard to find and niche products to sample and try on. Bridget carries Aesop skin care, City Lips plumping lip gloss(this stuff rocks), 3 Custom Color lip gloss, Frownies, Weleda skin care, Dr. Hauschka skin care, Gunilla of Sweden skin care, and numerous other wonderful bath and body products. Odalisque also carries their own house brand of makeup that truly rivals any of the big name brands. Bridget is a master with makeup and if she has time she loves to give makeup lessons, and share tips that make everyone feel beautiful.

I happen to be obsessed with fragrance, and since Odalisque has been in business their fragrance selection has grown by leaps and bounds. Personally this thrills me to no end.
Their selection includes: Sage by the well known L.A. company Sage Machado, Patyka 1922, 4711--the legendary German cologne, The Ebba line --also from Los Angeles, The Tiare line which is very Polynesian full of Tahitian Vanillas, Gardenias, and other tropical things, Monyette Paris, Frank LA, and breathtaking fragrances from L'Artisan Parfumers--directly from France. She also carries the Auric Blends line--which are great and priced so that you can buy many to mix and match.
Bridget is always scouting for wonderful fragrances and products, so her inventory is always expanding with new and beautiful things.

I love Odalisque, and I shop there often. Great products, beautiful atmosphere, and always a good conversation. When Bridget is not around you can usually chat with her Mom--who is also a treat!

By the way--Odalisque is located on Third Street in Geneva. There are lots of little boutiques and great restaurants located there. You can easily spend an afternoon . It is beautiful this time of year, and full of activity.

It sounds like a great store, but I'm laughing because they lied to you about what an odalisque is. Look it up, chile. ;-)

I looked it up prior to writing this little ditty, but I did not want to send the Suburbanites into cardiac arrest by telling them an Odalisque is known as a concubine, kept woman, woman sent to entertain pharohs.
I am sure the word has taken on many differnt spellings/meanings/origins in many different lands.
In the land of Geneva, Illinois it means Beauty Apothecary--however I have seen a couple of concubines milling around now that you mention it!
Can't pull one over on you T!

BTW when you read the post were here pics attached? I have been having cache troubles! ACK
Have a good day!

Dammit, it would've been so funny if you'd answered, "Actually, an odalisque is a harem girl, but don't worry, it's still a very nice store." Were you laughing when they said that to you? I would die cracking up.

I want to see more classy beauty stores named after different varieties of hos. "Putain, it is a beautiful French word for a luxurious mansion for the aristocrats..."

What a great shop. We have our own little version of it like that in Portland and I love it. I really love spending my money there, too ;)

Looks like our kind of store, indeed...Tania's comment is a hoot, and maybe the title of the store is meant to tell us how we should all be living, like KEPT women!!!

Annie-
Hey now, Ohio does not suck! You have the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, PLUS Drew Carey is from Cleveland--the mistake by the lake! HA

Katie-
What store do you frequent by you? Is La Creme in Oregon or is it in Washington? I would love to go to LaCreme. I am sure it is cute too.

Barb,
Good Point--we should all be living like kept women--spoiled and cherished! HA DREAM ON!

Neela-
Yes the store is so very cute.
And T's comments are so funny---T is a regular comedian**rolls eyes**!!!

xoxo to you all!

Blush Beauty Bar, which is handily enough, just down the street from the Ziva salon which also has some unusually interesting niche scents and items.
