May I have a moment of your time?

Dear Savvy Readers,

A very cool PR Group who mainly focus on fashion has asked me if I (and my blog readers) would be involved in a survey about universal ideas of fashion and fashion influences.

There are 3 questions I would be ever grateful if you would answer.
If you do not want to post your answers in my comments, then you can click on my profile and send them to me via e-mail.

1. Who in the media or entertainment field most influences your style, and why? If no one in the media really influences the way you dress, then whose style in the media do you most admire?

2. Whom in your real life (aunt, mom, friend) do you think has the most style and dresses the most stylish- and what is it about them that makes you admire their style?

3. Do you think there is a distinct difference between style and taste? When you hear someone say "Oh she dresses so tasteful" do you think it means the same as if they said "Oh she dresses so stylish" ? Does "He has good taste" equal "He has good style"?

Thanks so much for answering these questions. I am not getting any sort of financial compensation for doing this survey....I was just approached about it and I thought it sounded so interesting. I am genuinely interested in what you have to say and looking forward to your answers. Thanks again!

Have a wonderful day!

I am influenced a lot by a lot of different people. I am very influenced by Jenifer Aniston. Her style is just so comfort chic! I have actually went out and bought a jacket before just because she was wearing it and I loved it. I have bought jeans, shirts, etc because they looked so good on her. And we have a lot of the same style anyway. I bought a shirt one time and the next week there she was sporting the same shirt in a RAGMAG in a different color. She isnt prissy in her dress and that is SO way me!

I dont really have anyone in my real life that I think are stylish. That sounds mean but really I live in Oklahoma. There is noone here that dresses right. IF I had to pick someone, I would say my step sister Trisha. She dresses very stylish and so cute. BUT, she is 23 years old. I would get creamed if I was trying to dress that way. HA!

3. Do you think there is a distinct difference between style and taste? When you hear someone say "Oh she dresses so tasteful" do you think it means the same as if they said "Oh she dresses so stylish" ? Does "He has good taste" equal "He has good style"?

YES!! There is a LARGE difference between the two. Tastefully is the way you dress for the occasion. No red at a wedding, no white at a funeral, etc. STYLISH is just that. You KNOW what looks good on you. You do not wear something that doesnt. When I hear someone say that I am dressed tastefully, it means my breasts are not hanging out or my jeans are not too low. When I hear someone say I am dressed stylish, it means that I am dressed in the latest fashion.

DID ANY OF THAT MAKE SENSE FROM THE MIND OF AN OKIE THAT WOULD LOVE TO LIVE ANYWHERE THAT HAS SOME KIND OF STYLE or EVEN TASTE FOR THAT MATTER???

How fun! Here are my answers:

1. Who in the media or entertainment field most influences your style, and why? If no one in the media really influences the way you dress, then whose style in the media do you most admire?

I LOVE watching E and reading fashion magazines, so I watch all the celebrities. I truly admire Sarah Jessica Parker because she always looks amazing, and she doesn't necessarily follow what's considered trendy. She can make a friggin sack look good. I, sadly, cannot. My style is probably more similar to someone like Jennifer Aniston; she really has California cool down. She never looks like she tried terribly hard, and her clothes are sleek and streamlined. She accentuates her outfits with great accessories. I've been told by my DC friends and co-workers that they see my California style. I'm not as straight and conservative as they are; I usually try to throw in interesting, artsy details into my looks.

2. Whom in your real life (aunt, mom, friend) do you think has the most style and dresses the most stylish- and what is it about them that makes you admire their style?

I have one co-worker and one friend in mind. They both dress is ways that are very different from what I would wear myself, but they both have a really good eye. They can mix designer duds with inexpensive pieces, and they always have a "look." Even when my friend just puts on a pair of jeans and a tank top, she looks like she put thought into her outfit. I think they both understand what looks good on them, and they understand that fit makes a huge difference in what we all wear. They also put together full outfits, including accessories. No detail goes unnoticed.

3. Do you think there is a distinct difference between style and taste? When you hear someone say "Oh she dresses so tasteful" do you think it means the same as if they said "Oh she dresses so stylish" ? Does "He has good taste" equal "He has good style"?

YES. Someone who dresses tastefully looks good an put together, and they would probably not end up on any "worst dressed" lists. Most people would agree that they look good. But they probably also take less risks. For some reason, the word "tasteful" makes me think of Laura on the current season of Project Runway. She always looks tasteful, but I know what to expect from her. Some kind of dress which fits really well and makes her look like she just stepped away from a shopping trip at Saks. Pearls, perhaps. But she doesn't usually take risks. Style implies more individualism to me. Someone who might be considered stylish may not necessarily be considered tasteful. J-Lo's famously bare green dress was very stylish, but not everyone would call it tasteful. That much skin could offend. No one would argue that the girl doesn't have style. Personally, I'd rather be stylish. One again, it might be due to the fact that I live in DC now. There are a lot of conservative, tasteful folks here. (Well, maybe they're not that tasteful, but that's a whole other story.) Most are NOT stylish.

From my cool bud Mich.

Question 1

I dont think there is anyone person that I look to for fashion Ideas. My style tends to be trendy but classic. I like crisp, classic lines that create a sexy yet elegant style. I do like to watch "What not to Wear" or " How do I look" for ideas on types of styles for body type. Any fashionable woman knows that body type is very important when choosing clothes. If you dress for your body type, you will always look fabulous!!

Question 2

I dont really have any family. All the women in my family are not really into fashion. I learned by watching, I am a big people watcher. I could plop down on a chair at the mall and people watch all day. I like skimming through the In-Style Magazine, however doesnt mean I always like what I see and much of the time I am like " Are you kidding me" I mean who's bright Idea was it to bring the "Skinny Jean" and Stir-up pants back???? They should be shot!!! For instance, I searched the internet through "Google" for FAll Fashion 2006 to see what was coming out. Love that the Izod sweaters are coming back "Trendy and Classic" Very nice!!

Question 3

Yes, I do believe there is a difference between Style and taste. Style in my opinion is an opinion. Taste, is knowing what works well on you and having the confidence to pull it off and put it together, Taste is personal.

Saying, " Oh she dresses tasteful is not the same as She dresses Stylish" Work with me here.... When I hear tasteful, In my mind I see elegant, proper sophisticated. When I here Stylish,(Since it's fall) I picture a cute hat with the bill off to the side a bit, An Ivory turtle neck with a Chocolate Leather Coat over it with a leather belt. Dark Denim Jeans, Straight leg with Chocolate Boots with a little heal and a Prada Bag and you cant forget the starbucks coffee cup in the other hand( hee hee)

Depending on the occasion you are dressing for the terms can mean very different things.

He has good taste vs. he has good style? Again taste to me means, he might know how to pick out clothes, but doesnt mean he knows how to put them together(Men are different). Or he has a fancy watch, wow he has good taste. But yet he tucks his Purple polo into his jeans and has on a brown belt with black lofers.... I'm sure you will agree, NOT STYLISH. Again, maybe good brand choices but ignorant to the fact on how to put it together.

This is my opinion, hope it helps.

Here ya go:
1. Dressing the way I would like is hard due to my physical disability, which has me in a wheelchair and lacking coordination. It does not give me many options in dressing stylish. The person that comes to mind though is Jennifer Aniston. I get Chadwick's of Boston catalogs, and I love their stylish yet tasteful looks.

2. I would have to say my friend. She dresses very stylish and tasteful in everything she wears. (I am referring to you.)

3.They are different. Tasteful is how you look according to the occasion, ans also being conservative and respectful. Stylish is about the way you look and the confidence you have with it on.

Hope this helps.
xoxo

1. If I had to pick one person in the entertainment field that influences my style I'd have to say Oprah. Don't laugh. She ALWAYS has on the perfect outfit for every occasion (maybe not her road trip). She reminds me that it's okay to dress up and even wear a hat if I want to. She also makes me feel a certain amount of confidence because of her size, she struggles with finding the perfect pair of jeans like we all do. I couldn't say that about Jennifer Aniston, no offence but I just think it's easier for her.

2. No one in my real life has style. I know that sounds horrible but it's true. I work with and hang out with mostly men.

3. There is a huge difference between style and taste. I think taste is dressing appropriately for every occasion and I think someone with style brings a little something extra, gives the same look a little flair, their own personal interpretation

I am pretty much influenced by Maytag. Maytag is my washer & dryer, and whatever happens to not only be clean, but also NOT in need of ironing -- that is my fashion choice of the day.

Who in my real life has the most style? Freaking anyone besides me. I am a mom who is lucky to remember to wear clothes each day. There have been many days that I get to work, and only one eye has mascara on. What the hell happened, you might ask... some crisis occurred in between eyes, and here I am, half-mascaraed for the entire day. It's a lovely look.

A distinct difference in style and taste? Hmmm... that is deep. Taste is what you may/may not prefer, Style is the current fashions.
