Go Cubs!
This past Friday, I was lucky enough to get to go to the opening home game for the Chicago Cubs. I went with a crazy group of girls who are Cubs game pros. We started out at Murphey's Bleachers for some pregame festivities, then we headed to the game.
It was FREEZING cold...like literally FREEZING. There was no trying to look cute at this game, unless you think looking like Nanuck of the North is cute. We had on gloves, hats, hoods, vests, coats etc. Fred Armison from Saturday Night Live was on hand to serve us beer though.
He looks just like Fred Armison--I know, right?
The Cubs won against the St. Louis Cardinals 5 to zip. I was happy we won, but I have to give a shout out to one of the Cardinals who is from my hometown of OKC and used to play baseball with some folks I went to high school with--Junior Spivey.
The picture is from when Junior still played for the Milwaukee Brewers--Go Junebug!
After the game we warmed up at Bernie's, it was crowded, and smokey and all things that make Cubs games (and after the games) so much fun.
Hugs to my friends--they are so (ass) crazy--which is all together different than average every day crazy!

Finally!!!
I am so excited that you are writing about baseball! What is wrong with this picture? Not one guy in your group? I have to move to Chicago where the girls go to baseball games by themselves. Chicks @ Dodger games look miserable because they are only there to be with the guy who would just wish his uppitty girlfriend would stay at home so they could drink more beers with the guys at the game.
You girls also went during a cold spell! Champions!!! I think I have semi? Did you have any dogs? I must stop before I pop!
I have to let you know that Junior is serving time with the Cardinals minor league team for the moment. He had the worst spring training of his career only hitting .142. Ouch! So the Cards sent him to the minors to get the bugs out. I was extremely sad. I was even more bummed during the Cardinals first home game. Their new stadium is beautiful and old Junior missed it. Too bad. I expect to see him back up with the big boys in a couple of months. I have been watching his stats and he is doing better. I will keep you posted.
Tell your friends that I have a crush on all of them! Especially the one in that awesome hood. Prrrrrrrrr...
I mean I like the girls with the hoods! Looks like your friend in the coat won the fight for salvation against the eskimo! Is that genuine wolverine fur on the hood? Damn, girl! Do you have whale fat in your pockets?
I commend you for being tough and staying with the Cubs hat. You got savy kid! Ears were probably mathing your hair by the 4th inning.
Tune in Tokyo?
Hey C!
I was wondering where Junior was. I heard NOTHING about him at the game. Too bad he is with the minors for a while. Hopefully it will be temporary and he will be back with the Cards in no time.
The girls I was with are baseball nuts! They had also just got back from the final four in Indy. Two of the girls wait for the day that the Cubs tickets go on sale, then they stand in line or stay on the phone ALL DAY to get as many as they can afford. They are die hards! They go to MANY games, then party like Rock Stars afterwards!
Oh and by the way--GAME DOGS are the BEST DOGS!
Ok--so you like the girls with the hoods? I will let them know. And the hood with the fur? Yes, it is genuine wolverine fur she got on an expedition as a Sherpa in the Andes (Peruvian side). The hood has quite a story albeit a haunting and sometimes sad story. You know the trek to Everest is not for the faint of heart. Heretofor, you have to be at a place of calm before she can tell you the story. Maybe she will tell you about it someday. Or at least the good parts. We were calling her Nanuck during the game--she did look cute!
You are such a nut!
And by the way--TONS of girls here go to baseball games by themselves here.
Keep me posted on Junebug.
Have a great day in sunny L.A!
Sounds like you and your friends had a blast!
If I may suggest something to my dear friend: I think you should get one of those hats with a C on it for Forrest!!!
Happy Spring to you.
Have I ever told you that you are THE. SPITTING. IMAGE. of my first cousin? It's more than a little freaky.
Hello Barb...
Yes, a fun time was had by all. Forrest does not have a Cubs hat, but he has a Cubs bed. I will send you the picture.
Jamie-
Oh your poor poor poor first cousin. Bless her heart! Just kidding. I seem to have a few twins. Send me her picture if you can!
Have a great day!
Ah, can't wait for Dollar Hot Dog night (though it would be Go As! for me!)
Hiya there!! I remember you! You know, the one thing I won't miss about Chicago is the weather, Spring starts so late there. Well, I moved to Washington D.C. metro area earlier this month and so far it's great! In 2wks I leave for a trip to East Africa, I'll be gone a total of 10wks, but hopefully there will be opportuntities to blog on the road (internet cafes are everywhere) and so I do plan to keep updating my blog and posting pictures along the journey. Btw, if you watch that movie The Breakup starring Jen & Vince, be on the lookout for me during the Cubs Game scene, because last summer I was an extra on the film! ;-)
Aren't y'all precious? Did T have her whistle?? Was anyone abandoned? xoxo...
Hello Tessa,
How is your trek through the Outback? I have been reading about your adventure. I hope you are having a nice holiday!
Hello Crystal!!!
Long time no hear from. 10 weeks in Africa? WOW. How fabulous. I hope you can blog about it.
I will look for you in The Breakup. I love to watch movies filmed in Chicago because I am a nerd and like to recognize all the landmarks.
I hope you are enjoying your time in DC.
Em,
Howdy Toots. While I was there T did not play the whistelpop, and noone was abandoned this time (ROFL) BUT I left early, so no telling what went on afterwards.
Are you still chasing 23 year old smokey smokertons who wear white patent leather belts?
SKREEEEEEE!
